Drone Cleaning: Moss and Lichen Removal from a Residential Roof
The Problem / Issue
Clear Protect was engaged to remove a heavy buildup of moss and lichen from the roof of a residential property. Over time, these organic growths had begun to affect not only the roof’s appearance but also its ability to shed water effectively – increasing the risk of surface deterioration, leaks, and premature wear.
Traditional roof cleaning methods depend on physical access using ladders, scaffolding, or an elevated work platform (EWP). In this case, however, the property’s layout presented multiple challenges. Tight boundary lines limited equipment placement, while uneven ground made it unsafe to erect scaffolding or operate an EWP. These access constraints meant that a conventional clean would have been time-consuming, high-risk, and costly to execute.
The client needed a safe, effective solution that could treat all areas of the roof – including steep and hard-to-reach sections – without the disruption, delays, and hazards typically associated with working at height. We were tasked with finding a smarter alternative that could deliver results while protecting both people and property.
The Solution
To address these challenges, we partnered with Drone Dog to deploy an innovative aerial cleaning approach. Using a precision-controlled drone equipped with Clear Protect’s environmentally safe cleaning products, the team was able to treat the moss and lichen across the entire roof surface efficiently – all from ground level.
The drone’s ability to manoeuvre easily around complex roof angles provided consistent coverage and eliminated the need for anyone to physically access the roof. This not only made the process significantly safer but also reduced time spent on setup and pack-down, ensuring minimal disruption to the homeowner.
